What Is EXIF Data?

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) metadata is embedded in photos by cameras and smartphones, and can include the date and time taken, camera/lens model, exposure settings, and — most importantly for privacy — GPS coordinates of where the photo was taken. This tool rebuilds the image from its raw pixel data only, discarding all embedded metadata.

Common Uses

  • Removing GPS location data before sharing a photo publicly online.
  • Stripping camera/device information for privacy before sending a file.
  • Reducing file size slightly by removing unnecessary metadata.
