About Barcode Formats

Code 128 and Code 39 can encode arbitrary text and numbers, making them flexible for internal tracking codes. EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, and ISBN-13 are fixed-length retail and publishing standards that require a specific number of digits and include a built-in checksum digit to detect scanning errors.
